Translating between formats -
As more are added, the art projects on this site will be unified around the theme of exploring the space-time volume by translating between digital formats. Photographic still images, digitally stitched panoramas, video, 3D computer graphics, and stereoscopic 3D, all produce homogenous data streams that can be intertranslated and reconfigured in unlimited combinations. These processes inevitably serve as models of perception and by exploring these interrelationships one gains a unique critical perspective spanning art, perception, technology and society.
Investigating the various differences between still and time-based imagery has remained a central focus of my work. In that category, some of my most involved investigations were filmed at Bioscleave House in East Hampton, NY, an art-science research station built by Arakawa + Gins.
